Workshop on cyber crimes held

Imphal West District Police today organised a one-day workshop on cyber crimes and digital/electronic evidence at Banquet Hall, 1st MR.The inaugural session of the workshop was attended by O Nabakishore, Chief Secretary and LM Khaute, DGP as the chief guest and president respectively.
Speaking at the workshop, O Nabakishore said that police officers and personnel who got training on cyber crimes should share their expertise and knowledge to other policemen.
In doing so, all members of the Manipur Police organisation would gradually become experts and smart policemen besides becoming a smart department.
Saying that the personnel have started using different mobile applications in their probes, Nabakishore said that the success of the probes will solely depend on the expertise and skills of the users.
LM Khaute said that it is very difficult to tackle cyber space when abused by users.
In the past, UG groups used extortion notes, hand grenades or arms in serving monetary demand.
But situation has witnessed gradual change in serving monetary demand.
They now extort money through phone calls and even used social networking sites, Khaute said.
Great ingenuity has been seen in the recent past and even bombs have been exploded using mobile phones, the DGP noted.
Even people are cheated through cyber space, he added.
As such, policemen need to be well equipped with state of the art equipment and expertise, LM Khaute said.
