Imphal, February 20 2016 :
With the IOC achieving remarkable market growth in Manipur this financial year, stocking of fuels at the rail-fed oil depot cons-tructed at Malom would begin from April.
According to information received from IOC's Imphal Divisional Retail Sales Office, State Level Coordinator, the State recorded market growth of seven percent in diesel and 6.6 per cent in petrol between April last year and January this year.
The storage capacity f the rail-fed oil depot is 5124 Kls for petrol, 11796 Kls for diesel and 5055 Kls for SK Oil.
Storage capacity for the Chingmeirong depot is 840 Kls for petrol, 3341 Kls for diesel and 2528 Kls for SK Oil.
It is reported that Guwahati based North East Integrated State Office Executive Director Dipankar Ray has infor- med the State Level Coordinator to start stocking the Malom depot from April.
It is estimated that stocking fuels in Malom depot to its total storage capacity of 21975 Kls would take around three months.
This would entail greater utilization of IOC's tanker trucks.
After stocking to its full capacity, the depot would start supplying petrol, diesel and SK Oil from the month of July.
A mega formal function would be organised to mark the beginning of supplying fuels from the depot.
Although the depot should be fed by railway, it would function as a road-fed depot for sometime once it starts supplying fuels, informed an official source.
Notably, Executive Director Dipankar Ray came to Imphal on January 11 and held a meeting with the Chief Minister on commissioning the Malom depot.
The State's fuel market is not totally monopolised by IOC.
NRL, BPCL, Essar and some other companies have some shares of the fuel market although the lion's share is controlled by IOC.
