AAMSU observes 26th annual conference

The All Assam Manipuri Students Union (AAMSU), Assam observed its 26th annual conference today at Silchar District Library auditorium.
The union also took out a mass rally from the District Library to Deputy Commissioner Office, Silchar demanding rights of Manipuri people in Assam.
The union submitted a memorandum through the District Commissioner addressing the Prime Minister of India, Chief Minister of Assam, Education Minister, Assam and Chief Secretary.
AAMSU volunteers, holding placard inscribed with slogan, 'We need constitutional rights from scheduled language Manipuri', 'Manipuris are the indigenous people of Assam', 'Include Manipuri optional subject in APSE Examination', 'Absorb all TET qualified Manipuri teachers' etc took out the rally.
The memorandum demanded introduction of Manipuri as an optional subject in the combined civil service examination and other examinations conducted by the Assam Public Service Commission, filling up all the posts lying vacant in Manipuri Medium schools and 100% employment of TET qualified Manipuri youths of Assam, immediate transfer of non- Manipuri speaking teachers from lower and upper primary schools and appoint Manipuri speaking teachers in the vacant post, introduction of Manipuri medium upto Higher Secondary level.
Subhachandra, president of AMSU, Manipur said the body will support AAMSU and its protests.
AMSU will submit a memorandum to the Govt of Manipur and Assam on problems faced by Manipuri people living in Assam.
Today's annual conference was attended by O Churamani Singh, retired Principal, GC College, Cachar, Assam as chief guest, Seram Herajit Singh, president, AAMSU as president and A Lily Singha, president, All Assam Meira Paibi Apunba Lup; Sanasam Subhachandra Singh, president, All Manipur Students Union (AMSU) Hqs; Nilotpol Choudhury, executive director, Dainik Jugoshanga as guests of honour respectively.
