Two TA men killed in Lokchao ambush along Imphal-Moreh road

Imphal, May 08 2017:
At least two personnel of Territorial Army (TA) were killed while two others sustained injuries when militants triggered an IED near Lokchao, Tengnoupal district, around 27 Kms away from the border town of Moreh this morning.
It is suspected that the UNLF/MPA was behind the attack which targeted troops of 165 TA posted at Lokchao.
Some troops of TA were returning to their post after dropping their colleagues for ROP duty between Lokchao and Leingangtabi when the IED went off at around 5.30 am today.

One personnel of TA identified as Arjun Baral of Koubru Leikha was killed on the spot while Toijam Chandra of Thanga, Vareisho Hungyo of Leishiphung and Y Govind of Kakching Turel Wangma sustained injuries.
All the injured victims were taken to Tengnoupal by road before they were airlifted by helicopter to Leimakhong military hospital.
From Leimakhong, Vareisho was referred to Shija Hospital but he succumbed to the injuries in the afternoon.
While the dead body of Arjun has been handed over to family members after post mortem at JNIMS today, the body of Vareisho has been deposited at the mortuary for post mortem tomorrow.
Following the blast, vehicular traffic along Imphal-Moreh highway was halted for sometime.
Meanwhile, a case has been registered at Moreh police station in connection with the blast.
On the other hand, a brief gun fight broke out between security forces and suspected cadres of the Zeliangrong United Front (ZUF) at around 7 am at Chingkhonglung under Tousem police station.
However, there is no report of any casualty on either side.
PIB (Defence Wing) in a statement informed that a wreath laying ceremony will be held at the old airfield, Koirengei tomorrow morning.
Chief Minister N Biren, DGP LM Khaute, IGAR (S), Dy Gen Officer, Red Shield Division will attend.
