Imphal, June 06 2010: Amid the heavy attacks with stones and catapults by blockade supporters at Noney Bazar areas on the NH-53, around 150 freight trucks arrived at Imphal today.

Windshields of over 20 freight trucks damaged in the attacks.

The attacks were performed by the blockade supporters from the residential areas when the trucks with escorts pass the Noney Bazar this morning, at about 7.30 pm.

No casualty to the truckers reported.

According to the truckers, blockade supporters could not attack the trucks in the front portion which security forces closely follow but they launched the attack at the trucks in the middle taking advantage of the absent of security force.

Around 150 freight trucks heading Imphal with security escort provided by the personnel of the Manipur Rifles from Jiribam yesterday crossed Khumbong area in Imphal at about 8 am.

Another group of 202 trucks had also left Jiribam today with security escort.

They are likely to reach Imphal tomorrow.

Drivers said that the problem confronting by them on the stretch of the highway is the portion from Dolal to Barak which is around six kilometer only.

The road condition is very bad, he added.
