Imphal, May 27: The United NGOs Mission has appealed to both the State and non-State actors to respect human lives and to protect lives of civilians.

At a solidarity meet held at Manipur Press Club today with members of the United NGOs Mission Manipur, killing of civilians by State and non-State actors was condemned in the strongest term.

They also appealed to stop factional killings among non-State actors.

The solidarity meet took strong exception to the incident of shooting Manipur University student Thokchom Ranjit by security personnel on May 14 as well as the killing of W Shyamjai of Moirang Ngangkhalwai on May 11 .

It also condemned the killing of five persons near Saikul public cemetery during a shoot-out between UG groups on May 24 and also the killing of innocent civilians in Dimapur in the last two months.

Many speakers attending the meet observed that recent activities of many UG groups operating in the North East region which were more akin to those of terrorists, deviating from their earlier revolutionary strategy, caused extreme hardships to the common people.

They also appealed to all concerned to spare civilians during confrontation between State and non-State actors for a genuine revolution.
