All set for first phase poll in three hill ADCs

Imphal, May 25 2010: The first phase polling of the Autonomous District Council (ADC) in Churachandpur, Chandel and Sadar hill is all set to go on tomorrow to decide faiths of 134 candidates in the fray in 39 ADC constituencies.

In Chandel district, opposing the elections, 48-hour district bandh has been imposed by the Chandel Civil Society Coordination even though there were no reports of boycotting the elections in Churachandpur district and Sadar Hills of Senapati district.

Adequate security arrangements for the smooth conduct of the poll have also been made with the deployment of Central paramilitary and state security force, official source from the state election commission said.

A total of 134 candidates are contesting in 39 ADC constituencies out of total 72 constituencies in all the three ADCs.

Lone candidates in the rest 33 constituencies had been declared elected uncontested.

Out of the 39 constituencies, 15 are in Churachandpur district in which 53 candidates are in the fray.

Forty candidates are in the fray for 12 constituencies in Chandel district while 41 candidates are in the fray in 12 ADC constituencies in Sadar Hills.

Polling will be conducted in 170 poling stations out of 255 polling stations in Churachandpur district and have a total of 1,15,793 voters eligible for exercising their franchise.

Polling will go on in 60 polling stations in 12 constituencies in Chandel district 43,706 electors while polling will be conducted in 169 polling stations in 12 constituencies having 58,484 electors.

State election commission is all set to conduct the elections with free and fair and smoothly.

Poll personnel had already stationed at their respective assigned polling places along with security.

The authority had already declared 12 of the 60 polling elections of Chandel ADC as hyper sensitive, 45 as sensitive and three only as normal polling stations.

Mention may be made that 11 candidates of the Congress and one RJD candidate had already declared as elected uncontested.

In Churachandpur district nine congress candidates and 13 congress candidates in Sadar hill had also been declared elected uncontested.
