Imphal, September 11: Along with identification of the three persons who were shot dead by unidentified gunmen at Naharup Pangong Litan Thongwangma under Irilbung Police Station of Imphal East District last night, local people today staged a protest demonstration urging all concerned to refrain from committing such violence incidents in the area.

Among the three victims, one identified as Konsam Jiban alias Ibungochouba (30) s/o Bisembor of Naoremthong Samushang Lairembi Leirak was said to be a worker in Manju Jewellery at Nagamapal.

According to family members, about 2 years back, Jiban had been arrested along with one of his friends who is a member of the proscribed UNLF by the police and put in the lock up.

His body has been taken away by the family members after post-mortem examination at RIMS today.

The second victim identified as Thiyam Yaikhomba alias Pujaba (24) s/o Juge of Langthabal Kunja Makha Leikai was said to be a cadre of the proscribed UNLF.

According to family members, Yaikhomba left home to join UNLF some 5 to 6 years back and was working as a training instructor of the outfit.

The family members have also taken his body after post-mortem at RIMS today.

The third victim identified as Thokchom Nimaichand alias Matikleiba (30) s/o Nobo of Torbung Waikhurok under Moirang Police Station was also said to be a UNLF cadre who left home to join the outfit some 5 years back.

His body too has been taken away by the family members after post-mortem at RIMS today.

According to report, Yaikhomba and Nimaichand were found shot dead with their hands tied together from behind.

Meanwhile, in protest against recurrence of killing people after bringing them at Naharup Pangong area, people of the neighbourhoods today staged a Wakat Meepham at the ground of Leitembi Youth Welfare Organisation located on the northern side of the bridge where the last night's killing took place.

The protestors appealed that whether it is by the security personnel or the UGs, the locality should not be used as a killing field.
