Standoff between IRB and IM continues

Kohima, September 24: Stand-off between the Indian Reserve Battalion (IRB) and the armed cadres of NSCN-IM occurred for the second time within a span of one month near Nagaland State Transport office (NST) in the heart of Kohima town today.

Sources revealed that some cadres of NSCN-IM were moving around at around 11:30 am around NST areas.

IRB patrol team getting information about the movement of armed cadres rushed to the spot prepared with their weapons, which created panic.

In the process, the NSCN-IM cadres rushed towards the New Market road and came back with more than 10 armed re-inforcements.

However, with the intervention of the SDPO Kohima and other senior officers and District Administration, the NSCN-IM cadres backed off after 10-15 minutes of standoff.

Meanwhile, in another incident cadres of the warring factions of NSCN today exchanged fire at 4th Mile area in Dimapur on the National Highway-39 at around 3:45 pm.

Police sources said, cadres of NSCN-IM reportedly spotted the rival cadres across the road just 200 metres away from Diphupar Village gate and opened fire at them.

On retaliation, the rival cadres also fired few rounds and fled in different direction.

Immediately after the incident police reached the spot and recovered 9 empty cases of AK-47.No injuries or casualties were reported from either side.

It is pertinent to note that despite the call for peace and reconciliation amongst the Naga underground groups, a hardcore NSCN-K cadre was killed while three others, including a civilian was critically injured as cadres of the rival NSCN factions clashed at Burma Camp in Dimapur district, Nagaland on Tuesday.

Sources revealed that the suspected armed cadres of the warring NSCN factions clashed in Burma Camp Bazaar at around 11:30 am from sophisticated weapons, killing one NSCN-K cadre inside a hotel while two NSCN-K cadres and also a worker of the hotel seriously.

The victim has been identified as SS corporal Mughaho while the injured NSCN-K cadres are SS Lt Hutoshe suffered bullet injury on right ear and right knees and SS Sgt Maj Vikheho Aye suffered injuries on right leg below knee.

The salesman of the Saran Mistan Bhandar identified as Chandan Narzari suffered bullet injuries on right arm and another on left leg.

He has been evacuated to Assam Medical College for further treatment while the two NSCN-K cadres are reportedly out of danger.

Meanwhile, in what is suspected to be a avenging firing, suspected NSCN-K cadres opened fire at the NSCN-IM Cease Fire Monitoring Cell office in Diphupar in Dimapur at around 1:30 pm on Tuesday.

However no casualties have been reported.
