Taking note of the slow progress of the construction works at Imphal Tulihal airport as well as the scheduled visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the State, the Principal Secretary (Textiles, Commerce and Industries), Manipur, P Vaiphei, has instructed the Airport Authority as well as other authorities concerned to expedite the works.
According to information received by The Sangai Express from an official source the canopy of the airport's passenger arrival and departure lounge with funds sanctioned by the Ministry of Aviation is under repair.
Constructions works are also underway at the airport approach road, the passenger exit road as well as the entry and exit gates of the airport.
The source pointed out that the Principal Secretary (Textiles, Commerce and Industries), Manipur, inspected the construction works at the airport on January 30 and had instructed the authorities concerned to expedite the work in light of the scheduled Prime Minister's visit to the State in the month of March.
The construction works are being taken up by Manipur Industrial Development Corporation Limited (MANIDCO), the source added.
A work progress review meeting was held at the office chamber of the Principal Secretary at Manipur Secretariat south block today, which was attended by the Director of Airport Authority of India, MANIDCO's Managing Director, engineers as well as contractors.
The Principal Secretary has directed all the authorities concerned to expedite the work and also informed that he himself would go to Imphal airport on February 9, to inspect the work progress, the source added.
