Imphal, June 05 2019: A launching ceremony of Free Treatment Initiatives for Hemophilia & Thalassemia organized by State Health Society National Health Mission was held in the conference hall of JNIMS, Blood Bank, Porompat Yesterday.

Speaking at the occasion Health & Family Welfare Minister L.Jayantakumar Singh said that there has been a new challenge developed in the health sector.

New and complex diseases have been detected with the advancement of medical science.

We need to be well conscious and aware about the new development, he added.

Minister appealed the people for a collective effort in fighting such life threatening diseases with positive attitude.

It is also a first time introduction in the state by NCDC and expect for bringing a fast solution to control these life threatening diseases.

As described by experts, hemophilia is a rare inherited, sex linked bleeding disorder due to deficiency or missing of clotting factors VIII or IX in the body.

Male are sufferers while females are carriers of Hemophilia gene.

On the other hand Thalassemia is an inherited blood disorder in which the body makes an abnormal form of hemoglobin.

The disorder results in excessive destruction of red blood cells, which lead to anemia.

In case of any suspected relevant incident occurs, they may be advised to consult.

The launching program was also attended by Dr Th Bhimo Singh, Director, JNIMS, Dr L Tomcha Khuman, SNO, NHM, Manipur and Dr Jitendra Singh, Medical Superintendent, JNIMS, Doctors and Medical staff of JNIMS.

NHM staff and others also attended the function.

Free medicines were also distributed to the patients who are suffering from Hemophilia & Thalassemia as a part of the program.
