Poster campaign to save Heirok, Wangjing river launched

Concerned with the increasing pollution at Heirok river and Wangjing river, Ningol Club of Heirok on Monday launched a poster campaign to save the rivers and educate people about their importance.
The launch of the campaign - "Protection and Conservation of Heirok, Wangjing River" at Ningol Club's office in Heirok Champra Thong was attended by Divisional Forest Officer, Thoubal, Debala Laiphrakpam, Ningol Club Heirok secretary general Khundongbam Sophia, Human Initiative Manipur, Delhi Unit, Women Co-ordinator, Mayanglambam Diana, Mrs Inter Nations Best Talent 2018, Ashakiran Konsam, Wildlife & Biodiversity Conservation Committee (WBCC) Manipur president Rabi Takhellambam and Coalition Against Drugs and Alcohol (CADA) Manipur vice-president Dipanjit Ningthoujam as dignitaries.

Speaking at the event, DFO ThoubaI Debala Laiphrakpam lauded the all female Ningol Club for its initiative and underscored the importance of the campaign.
The poster campaign will be able to educate people about the importance of the rivers, she said urging all to stop polluting the river systems.
She further said that nine rivers of the State are among the most polluted rivers in India according to a report of National Green Tribunal.
Heirok and Wangjing rivers are in that list, she added.
Proper awareness and concrete measures can help mitigate pollution in the river systems.
The rivers can still be saved if people along the rivers and all stakeholders stop littering near the river systems, she said encouraging the members of the Ningol Club for the campaign.
Pointing out the negative impacts of felling trees on the environment and river systems, she appealed all to save river ecosystem and plant more trees.
Volunteers and members of Ningol Club pasted posters carrying message "No Water, No Life" in areas under Heirok and Wangjing.
