AMSU inspects different schools in Barak circle; decries poor infrastructure, inadequate teachers, staff

Jiribam, April 20 2019: Hilarious it may sound but a local guy, who does not know English, was reportedly found teaching English subject to students studying in class 1 to 6 in a classroom at Bhutangkhal Govt Upper Primary School today when members of All Manipur Students Union, (AMSU) was making an inspection tour at different schools located in the interior area of Jiribam district along Barak circle, reports our correspondent.

It further said that the touring students of the union also witnessed lack of inadequate infrastructure, staff, teachers etc, in various schools of the area.

The group of student leaders including L Ranbir Singh, Students Volunteer Committee, AMSU, HQ, Imphal; Moirangthem Prabin, Joint Secy, AMSU, HQ, Imphal; M Abdul Hakim, vice-president, AMSU, HQ, Imphal and President, AMSU, Jiribam District Committee, Y Sanjiv Singh took part in the inspection tour.

During the inspection tour, they first visited Chotobekra Govt Junior High School and then stopped at Bhutangkhal Govt Upper Primary School and later inspected the condition of Borobekra Govt Higher Secondary School.

One of the student leader, Makakmayum Abdul Hakim, while speaking to the media persons lamented poor infrastructure of Chotobekra Junior High School, inadequate staff and teachers and expressed concern about the fate of the students who are studying in the school.

He also decried the similar situation at Bhutangkhal Govt Upper Primary School, where the Headmaster was found absent including the teacher and staff.

Besides, a local identified as one Ruhit Chandra Das was found teaching English Subject to a group of students who are studying in class 1 to 6 inside a classroom even though he allegedly does not know English at all, he added.

Sharing their findings while touring in different schools at Barak circle, Moirangthem Prabin stated that the team found zero-attendance (except the Headmaster) at Chhotobekra Govt Junior High School, which was marred by poor infrastructure and expressed deep concern of the students who have a bleak future if they continue to study in such condition.

He further urged the ZEO Jiribam to start working for the improvement of the infrastructure of these many schools and stopped utilising school teacher at ZEO office as staff, in the interest and future of the poor students whose parents cannot afford to send their children at expensive private schools.

He also drew the attention of the authority concerned to look into the matter at the earliest.
