Gaikhangam predicts fall of 'divided' BJP Govt
Source: The Sangai Express

Imphal, September 04 2019: MPCC president and former Deputy CM, Gaikhangam has claimed the cracks and power struggle inside the BJP led coalition State Government has resulted in an unstable and volatile situation, adding that it will not be long before the BJP led Government crumbles and sinks.

He made the statement during a booth level Congress workers interaction programme which was organised for Henglep AC at Lawar Kom Keirap community hall today.

Speaking at the programme, Gaikhangam said that the fighting inside the BJP has been going on for quite some time due to the demand for a change in leadership.

The MLAs and Ministers are running to and fro to Delhi in connection with the issue.

As such, it is worth asking if the people will take the State Government seriously, he added.

Explaining that winning and losing are part of politics, Gaikhangam reminded that the Congress ruled for three terms without any problem.

The people also gave the mandate to the Congress in the recent State Assembly election but as the BJP is in power at the Centre, the State Government was formed by completely violating all rules and regulations by a party which only won 21 seats out of 60, Gaikhangam alleged.

Stating that it will not be right to keep supporting an illegal Government which does not have any regard for the rule and the law, he claimed that the people do not have any trust in the current Government.

Gaikhangam continued that the State Government has done nothing for the benefit of the people till date except make false promises and asked what incredible and unique feat this Government has achieved and which roads or bridges it has constructed in the State even though it is almost 2 and a half years old.

He then said that the interaction programme has been organised to increase the strength of the Congress and appealed to all to work hard to make sure the Congress wins not less than 45 seats in the Assembly election of 2022 .

The Congress is far from a weak political party.

Even if 7/8 MLAs have betrayed the party, it still has 20 devout and loyal MLAs.

There is no need for the Congress workers to feel down, he added.

Replying to a query after the end of the programme, Gaikhangam clarified that the report that the MLAs who defected from Congress and those who left PCC will form an alliance, is just baseless rumour.

Looking after the present condition of the BJP, no one will want to join it.

Do not drag the name of the Congress in the mess within BJP.

No one is planning to leave the Congress party.

An alliance is formed only with the aim of forming a Government and in this issue, it is only the BJP which will get hurt in the end.

The Congress still has 20 loyal MLAs, Gaikhangam said.

Former Ministers T Manga Vaiphei, M Oken, MPCC vice president T Mangibabu and S Achouba were also present during the programme.
