National Health Mission staff stage sit in protest at Ukhrul

Ukhrul, September 25 2017: The National Health Mission (NHM), Ukhrul, in joining the demand for regularization of post under the aegis of All Manipur NHM Employees Welfare Association (AMNEWA), staged a sit in protest in front of the Chief Medical Office (CMO), Ukhrul, at Kamphasom , today .

Speaking to media persons, the health workers appealed to the State Government for immediate regularization of their posts considering the hardships faced by the health workers of the State .

They pointed out that they have endured immense hardship to provide health services to the people of far flung remote areas, but the State Government is yet to recognize their services .

Although, they receive meagre monthly salary, it is because of the dedication of the NHM staff that there is some improvement in the health sector of the State, they asserted .

The District Programme Manager (DPM), Ukhrul, R Chiphang, said that in 2006 , more than 2250 individuals were appointed as contractual staffs under the National health mission, by the State Government .

He further expressed resentment that the State Government do not have any clear cut policies for job creation of the appointed management unit under NHM.

He said that the management unit looks after the affairs of preparation of all reports, data updation, and programme coordination etc, to ensure that the Primary Health Centre (PHC) and the Primary health Sub-centre (PHSC) of the remote area villages are fully functional .

The DPM also mentioned that some of the staff are in supernaution period .

The District community mobiliser (DMM), Nimshim, stated that thaere is a visible and impressive development in the State Medical Department .

She said that the Infant Mortality rate (IMR) has reduced considerably and the State has the lowest recorded IMR in the country .

During the sit in protest, the NHM staff and the executive members of the All Manipur NHM Employees Welfare Association (AWNEWA) wore black badges to mark their resentment for the lack of any positive steps from the State Government .

They said that if the State Government fail to give any positive response at the earliest, the NHM health workers, under the aegis of AWNEWA will intensify the stir conecerning their demand for Regularization, from September 29 onward.
