Imphal, September 25 2017:
It rained goals as Muvalai Athletics beat NISA, Thangmeiband by a margin of five goals to three while in the second match of the day, AIM Khabam brushed aside YPHU, Lalambung by three goals to nil in the ongoing 12th Manipur State League at the Artificial Turf Ground, Khuman Lampak .
In the first match of the day Muvanlai Athletics and NISA adopted a free flowing style and the goal started as early as the 3rd minute of the match when E Dayananda of NISA latched onto a ball and crisply found the net to put his team ahead .
Muvanlai Athletics however did not take the one goal deficit lightly and their forward line swarmed all over the rival’s territory with some crisp passing and fast runs down the flanks .
Off one such move, Joel Kom of NISA brought down Letmingou Mangte in the penalty box prompting the referee to point to the dreaded spot while giving marching orders to Joel Kom .
Haolengou who took the kick did well to keep his cool and tapped the ball past the outstretched hands of the custodian of NISA to restore parity .
The equaliser gave more punch to the attack of Muvanlai Athletics and they began to swarm all over the penalty area of NISA and Haoginlen Khongsai who was well placed took a power packed shot that found the net in the same minute (6th minute)
Up by one goal, Muvanlai Athletics continued to control the match and Jefferson Joute was at it when he found the net in the 17th minute .
Thereafter Letmingou Mangte did the star turn for Muvanlai Athletics as he pumped in two goals in the 24th minute and 33rd minute to increase the lead for Muvanlai Athletics .
After the lemon break, Muvanlai Athletics continued to find the gaps and Lalsiemthang Fimate was at it when he found the net to give his team a comfortable four goal lead .
Taking comfort in the four goal lead, Muvanlai Athletics were content in playing around, and NISA took full advantage of this and managed to score through T Surjakanta Singh in the 78th minute and Kh Jolly Singh in the 90th minute.
But the two goals came too late and proved to be inadequate as Muvanlai Athletics walked off with a convincing margin of 5 goals to 3 to earn full points .
The second match of the day was a one sided affair with AIM, Khabam scoring three goals and conceding none against YPHU, Lalambung.
The two teams were however evenly matched in the first half and lemon break was taken with neither team breaking the deadlock .
It was only after the breather that AIM, Khabam found their touch and scored through WS Ngouba in the 51st minute followed by Th Vandana following a defence splitting pass from L Gogocha in the 73rd minute and L Monish who latched onto a fine pass from S Dinesh in the 79th minute to wrap up the match.
