Sub-jr and Jr Aquatic Nationals : K Athoiba collects fourth gold

Imphal, August 10 2024: Koijam Athoiba bagged his fourth gold medal at the 40th Sub-Junior and 50th Junior National Aquatic Championships 2024 to take Manipur's tally to 5 gold, 2 silver and 2 bronze.

The championship is underway at Aquatic Complex, Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar, Odisha.

Koijam Athoiba, who swept three gold medals in freestyle events for Group III boys, picked his fourth gold today in the 50 m butterfly stroke event by taking just 29.83 seconds.

Athoiba won his third gold medal yesterday in the 50 m freestyle competition with a time of 26.92 seconds.

Laitonjam Lanchenba who clinched a gold medal in the 100 m butterfly stroke event for Group II boys and a silver medal in the 50 m butterfly stroke event, also added his third medal by securing a bronze in the 200 m butterfly stroke event yesterday.

He took 2:12.03 (2 minutes and 12.03 seconds) to finish third in the competition.

Laitonjam Punghen also earned Manipur a bronze medal yesterday in the 100 m butterfly stroke competition for Group III boys with a time of 1:10.86 (1 minute and 10.86 seconds) .

Manipur's Seram Petersen had also won a silver medal in the 100 m breaststroke event for Group III boys.

The championships will conclude tomorrow.
