Imphal, October 22 2018:
Students of National Sports Academy locked down the office of Youth Affairs and Sports and staged a sit in at the front of the gate today against the order issued by Director, YAS to shift their practise grounds.
It is learnt that the Director issued an order on October 11 to shift taekwondo training hall of NSA to the newly built Khuman Lampak Multi Purpose Hall to help facilitate Badminton RCC Programme.
Denouncing the order, the students locked down the YAS office and staged a sit in from 9.30 am today.
Later Joint Director of YAS Department, L Jayenta and Principal of NSA, Ranbir arrived at the spot and calmed down the students.
They also promised that higher authority will be consulted regarding the issue and maintained that all possible measures to fulfil their demands would be taken up.
It may be mentioned that the management committee of National Sports Academy took a decision on August 23, 2014 to allocate the indoor hall of NSA located at the IRB campus for weightlifting and taekwondo and the indoor hall located near the Bal Bhavan for judo and weightlifting.
Stating that ignoring management committee's decision is very unfortunate, the guardians of the NSA students expressed that the Director of YAS and its officials should be held responsible for any unwanted incidents.
They also urged the concerned authority to intervene into the matter and stop such unreasonable shifting of training places which exert useless pressure on the students.
