Commonwealth Fencing Championships gold medallist Ch Jetlee returns to hero's welcome

Commonwealth Fencing Championship gold medallist Chingakham Jetlee Meitei received a hero's welcome as he landed here at Bir Tikendrajit International Airport, Imphal this afternoon.
Jetlee, son of Chingakham Sharat and Chaingakham (o) Ayingbi Devi of Kyamgei Mayai Leikai won the gold in the team epee event at the Commonwealth Fencing Championship held at London beating Scotland 45-44 in a keenly contested final encounter.
In the event, Jetlee scored 19 points of the total 45 to ensure the Indian team sealed the gold medal.
He was received by the members of United Progressive Adults' Association (UPAA), Kyamgei where he started playing fencing from 2011 and represented the association till 2016 besides fencing lovers and well wishers.
A formal reception programme was held at the office of UPAA, Kyamgei during he was feted and encouraged to keep bringing laurels to the Nation and the State.
Jetlee who is the youngest of three siblings is pursuing BA first year and presently associated with Army Sports Institute (ASI), Pune since May 1, 2016.Before the Commonwealth Fencing Championships gold, he had won a gold medal (team) each at the GNC Cadet Open Championship, Singapore in 2017, Cadet Commonwealth Fencing Championship held in England in 2018 and South Asian Games, Nepal and two bronze medals in the international events.
During 2016 and 2021, the promising fencer participated in 19 National competitions and brought home 9 gold, 3 silver and 7 bronze medals.
Besides these, he had won a gold medal each in the individual and team events for Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar in the 2nd Khelo India University Games, 2021 held last year in Bengaluru, Karnataka.
