XIII Senapati District Badminton C'ship 2018 opened by Deputy CM

The XIII Senapati District Badminton Championship, 2018 organized by the Senapati District Badminton Association (SDBA) was inaugurated and opened by Yumnam Joykumar Singh, Dy Chief Minister of the State who has graced the opening function as chief guest at Multi Purpose Hall, Rikhumai Taphou, Senapati.
Solomon Arow, President Naga People's Organization attended the inaugural function as guest of honour while Chairman, Vice Chairman, ADC of Senapati district and their Executive Members, M Pradip Singh (IPS) SP Senapati, President and colleagues of the Senapati District Students' Association (SDSA), Senapati District Olympic Association, Manipur (SDOAM), Senapati District Contractors Association (SDCAM) and members of the Manipur Badminton Association (MBA) also attended the function.
Speaking as the chief guest on the occasion, Dy Chief Minister Y Joykumar apprised the people of Senapati about the changes and development achieved so far while comparing it to the time of early eighties when he was the then Superintendent of Police.
He said that Senapati was like a deserted place with only a few Government offices and people did not wish to settle at the District Headquarter.
He continued that the place has now witnessed a sea change in these many years which are now developed with surging population.
The chief guest further asked the players to work hard so that they can play at national and international level when the district has such a big and well decorated indoor hall where so many courts can be played at a time.
He also advised the organizers to organize such tournaments and championships frequently to improve the skills and techniques of the hill players so that they could be in par with the players of the valley.
During the function, two sub- junior players from the association, who have represented Manipur and the country at Malaysia in 2018 and Bangkok this year in U-11 category under the sponsorship of the Senapati District Badminton Association (SDBA).
The association further requests the concerned authority to assist the young players of the district in their future endeavour.
It has been reported that the championship will be held till September 15 in which about 150 players in different categories - U-13, U-16, U-19, above 35 years, 40, 45, 50, 60, and 65 for both the genders will compete in the championship.
