Indian Army organises Wushu Championship 2024 in Bishnupur

The Wushu Championship 2024, being organised by Indian Army as part of its Operation Sadbhavana, kicked off with a grand opening ceremony at Kha Potshangbam Nachou, Bishnupur district on Saturday.
The event aims to foster sportsmanship and unity among the youth of Manipur, focusing on the ancient martial art of Wushu.
The championship brings together talented athletes from across Manipur, offering a platform to showcase their skills and dedication to this dynamic discipline, said a press release from PRO, Ministry of Defence, Manipur, Nagaland and Southern Arunachal Pradesh.
The opening ceremony featured a spectacular Wushu Sanda demonstration, a cultural performance of Thang Ta dance, and a parade by participants.
Indian Army dignitaries, along with K Ravi Kumar, SP Bishnupur, Bishnupur District Wushu officials and local sports enthusiasts gathered to witness the event and support over 150 athletes, set to compete over the coming days.
The championship is poised to be a testament to the potential and prowess of Manipur's youth while underscoring the positive impact of Operation Sad-bhavana in the region, the release continued.
"The Indian Army extends its best wishes to all the participants for the championship, commending the dedication of the participants and the spirit of competition.
The Army also extends its gratitude to the Wushu Association and the local community for their support in making Wushu Championship a reality one more time.
The anticipation is high for an exciting and competitive tournament that will undoubtedly contribute to the overall development and harmony in Manipur," it added.
