Imphal, May 08 2009: Polo team-A of Manipur Police Sports Club began its campaign in the 19th Governor's Cup Invitation Polo Tournament with a 6-4 victory over Chingkheihunba Polo Club-A at Imphal Pologround today.

The police side raced to a 3-0 lead in the opening chukker through S Somorjit's brace and one by S Girimohan while N Prabinkumar pulled back one for Chingkheihunba early in the second session only to see Somorjit add two more to the police tally in the same chukker for a commanding 5-1 lead.

Even though Chingkheihunba dominated the penultimate chukker and narrowed the score deficit with Kh Nongpoknganba and Md Abdullah netting one goal apiece followed by Prabinkumar's second of the match in the third minute of the final session, S Bimol struck late in the game to ensure the facile win for the police side.

The win put MPSC-A in the semifinals.

The competition being participated by eight top teams and played on knock-out format was inaugurated by the Sports Minister N Biren Singh while Tribal Development Minister DD Thaisii graced the occasion as the functional president.
