Imphal, January 04 2023: Jotin Pheiroijam scored an unbeaten 51 as Manipur posted a first innings total of 277 runs in 106.1 overs to take a 173 run innings lead against Mizoram in their fourth Ranji Trophy 2022-23 Plate Group tie at Narendra Modi Stadium Ground 'A', Motera in Gujarat.

Starting their second innings, Mizoram were 79 for 3 (in 33 overs) at stumps on Day 2 to trail behind Manipur by 74 runs.

Earlier in the day, Manipur resumed their first innings at 117/4 with Priyojit K and Prafullomani on the crease who gathered a 55-run partnership for the fifth wicket before Prafullomani was dismissed by Dika Ralte for 34 .

Kishan Singha who came in for Prafullomani also departed cheaply for 7 after being trapped in front by Taruwar Kohli.

Priyojit and Jotin Pheiroijam also stitched together 26 runs before Priyojit got lbw out by Bobby for the 7th wicket when he was just a run away from hitting a half century and Manipur was 10 runs away from the 200 run mark.

Jotin who was wrecker-in-chief in Mizoram's first innings then played a pivotal role in taking Manipur past the 200 run mark and the moderate innings total of 277 runs in 106.1 overs with an unbeaten 51 with the assistance of RK Rex (25 off 32 balls) who was dismissed by Naveen and Bikash Singh (25 off 27 balls) who was trapped lbw by Taruwar Kohli.

Taruwar Kohli returned with the best bowling figures of 4/47 in 23 overs as Dika Ralte (2/82 in 25 overs) and Naveen (2/52 in 16 overs) chipped in with two wickets apiece.

Trailing behind by 173 runs Mizoram started their innings on a shaky note and saw Thanzuala (7) being bowled out by Bishorjit who also trapped Taruwar Kohli (0) lbw for the second wicket as the scoreboard read 38 for 2 after 20.2 overs.

Hruaia who was starting to pose a threat to Manipur along with Shreevats Goswami was then trapped lbw by Kishan Singha for 42 for the third wicket.

Shreevats was unbeaten on 30 with Dika Ralte (0) as Mizoram post 79 for 3 (in 33 overs) at Stumps on Day 2 .
