Imphal, July 03 2022: The 5th edition of Khuraijam Ramnarayan Shastree Memorial State Level Open Chess Tournament kicked off today under the aegis of Manipur Chess Association at the premises of Juvenile Club, Sagolband Tera Sapam Leirak.

The opening ceremony of the tournament was graced by Khuraijam Loken Singh, MLA Wangoi Assembly Constituency as chief guest; Ingudam Rajen Singh, vice president, Juvenile Club as functional president besides Sinam Rahul, Zilla Parishad Member, Changangei GP; Athokpam Bishorjit Singh, Pradhan, Sapam Leikai Gram Panchayat; Khuraijam Athouba, vice president, IPSA; Khuraijam Banikanta, president Khuraijam Ramnarayan Shastree Memorial Trust; AK Manihar, former Dean, School of Sciences, Manipur University and Loubuktongbam Lalgopal, ex-secretary, MCA as guests of honour.

The opening day of the tournament saw the completion of 33 matches.

L Lalgopal Sharma kicked off the tournament with a win against Amom Shyamkishor before Yambem Dhanabir beat E Jackson and Kh Sanjoy beat Kamei K Amson in the second and third matches respectively.

Securing first round wins in other matches staged today include, Sadokpam Premjit, Th Sunachand, RK Bhogen, K Kunjabihari Meitei, K Poireikhomba, O Ningthem, M Herojit, E Shashikanta, S Lawrence, H Ibochou, N Dhaneshor, RK Sudhirsana, Moirangthem Sanjit, GA Arosemit, N Pari, N Brojen, Ngakuimi Kasar, M Madhusudon, , Ronald Soibam, Sougaijam Priyokumar, Rocky, S Herojit, Seram Indrajit, Laishram Nelson, Dayanand Thoudam, N Tokyo, Jalesh Thoudam and Y Rishang Meitei.
