Imphal, August 10 2019: Joshua Thiyam managed to seal both the U-12 and the U-10 boys singles semis as the 18th Governor's Trophy Tennis Tournament got underway today under the aegis of Manipur Tennis Association at Officers' Club Tennis Complex, at Lamphel.

Joshua who is drawn in Group B in both U-10 and U-12 boys' singles competition, started the U-10 campaign by defeating Lanchenba Maibam 7-1 before overwhelming Neol Kipgen 7-0 in another league match and eventually reached the semis along with Lanchenbi who was able to register a 7-0 win today in another Group B fixture.

In the U-12 competition, Joshua went down 3-7 to Karnajit Yumnam in the opening match but sealed a 7-2 win against Jason Wangkhem to confirm his place in the last 4 round.

Karnajit on the other hand top the Group as he thrashed Jason Wangkhem 7-0 in another match to book the semi-final berth.

In the U-10 Group A league matches; Jason Wangkhem and Soham Keisham secured two wins respectively after Chirom Khaangba started the league campaign with a 7-0 win against K Yohenba.

Jason Wangkhem handed K Yohenba the second defeat as he triumphed 7-0 before overcoming Chirom Khaangba 7-1 .

Soham Keisham took off his campaign with a 7-0 win against Chirom Khaangbam and went to seal a 7-0 win against K Yohenba to enhance his semi-final chances.

Meanwhile in the Group B league matches of U-12 singles competition, Saikhom Dhanaraj pulled off three wins to inch closer to last 4 round.

Dhanaraj opened up his winning account with a 7-3 win against Soham Keisham and sealed a 7-1 win against Lanchenba Maibam in the second fixture before pulling off a 7-2 win against Khaangba Chirom.

Soham Keisham then posted a 7-0 win against Lanchenba Maibam before posting a 7-1 win against Chirom Khaangba in another fixture.

U-14 Girls Singles .

Pooja Saikhom and MNC Sanareima were able to sealed their last 4 round berths in the U-14 girls singles competition from Group B today.

Pooja Saikhom topped the Group as he registered 7-2 win against MNC Sanareima; 7-0 win against Madhushree H and 7-0 win against Maxila Chirom.

MNC Sanareima on the other hand sealed a 7-0 win against Madhushree H who started the league campaign with a 7-3 win, before beating Maxila Chirom 7-0 in her last fixture.

Meanwhile, Yumnam Thoibi and Laishram Nandini made themselves into the semi-finals from Group A with brilliant performances against their respective rivals.

Yumnam Thoibi got off to a good start beating Laishram Nandini 7-6 (7-5) in the opening match.

Thoibi then sealed a 7-0 win against G Aarnica Sharma before posting a similar win against Bernali Saikhom in the third match. Thoibi then reserved the top place with a 7-1 win against Diana Pakhuongte in her last fixture.

Nandini on the other hand recovered herself by beating Bernali Saikhom 7-0 in the second match and went on to claim a 7-2 win against Diana Pakhuongte in her third match.

She then managed a 7-0 win against G Aarnica Sharma in the third match and finished Group A runners up.
