Imphal, September 09 2015 :
20 Assam Rifles of 26 Sector Assam Rifles under the aegis of Hqs IGAR (S) celebrated International Literacy Day at Anallon Christian Institute (Higher Secondary School), Lambung, Chandel yesterday.
The day was a platform to spread awareness amongst the local populace.
The people were convinced that literacy is not only limited to reading and writing but also means to understand own duties and to empathise with other people, said a press release issued by PRO Hqs IGAR (S) .
Literacy is the solution to remove poverty, unemployment and other problems from society.
The locals were made aware about various educational programmes like Midday meal scheme, Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan, Rajiv Gandhi Literacy Mission, Adult Education programme and other important initiatives started by the Government.
The initiative was a great motivation for people to send their children to schools and understand it as a basic necessity for a vibrant future generation.
