Imphal, December 22 2016:
Calling for peaceful co-existence among different communities of Manipur, members and workers of Manipur National Democratic Front (MNDF) staged a sit-in at Keishampat today.
Among others, the sit-in was also participated by MNDF president Ch Priyo kumar, vice-president Bijoy Koijam, vice-president Lien Gangte, vice-president MA Jabbar, vice-president Letjam Singson, general secretary Abdul Samad, general secretary L Thoiba, general secretary W Body James, and women wing president Y Romola.
Speaking to media persons by the sideline of the sit-in, Bijoy Koijam said that the State Government and the Central Government should work together to get the economic blockade lifted in the interest of the people of Manipur, leaving aside political considerations.
Even as the general public have been reeling under extreme misery, many politicians have been hopping from one political party to another in their own personal interests.
People ought to teach a lesson to these party-hopping politicians as done in 2001, Bijoy Koijam said.
MNDF welcomed creation of new districts for administrative convenience but the party condemned the killing of policemen in Tengnoupal and confiscation of weapons from security forces at Nungkao by militants.
These daring attacks testified that NSCN-IM has designated camps in Manipur.
Asking as to why the Government of India has not been removing these designated camps from Manipur, Bijoy Koijam said that the Indian Army are more interested in checking goods/vehicles by opening unauthorised check posts along Imphal-Moreh highway.
The Government should initiate due process to declare UNC as an unlawful organisation if it is registered under the Constitution of India, Bijoy Koijam said.
He also prayed that the forthcoming Christmas festival may bring peace and harmony in the State and let people forget all past hatchets.
