Ukhrul, September 09, 2009: Atleast six suspected UGs have been reportedly killed last night in two separate incident of shoot-outs with combined forces involving Imphal West District Police Commandos for the first time after the July 23 Khwairamband Bazar incident.

With this, the total number of people in a civilian driver killed by the security forces in reported encounters over the last two days (September 7 and 8) has reached 14. According to police report, the six UG suspects were killed during two incident of shoot outs which took place at Awang Khunou under Patsoi Police Station in Imphal West district but at different timing last night.

In the first shoot out which took place at around 11 pm yesterday, a combined force of Imphal West District Police Commandos and personnel of 12 Maratha Light Infantry killed two armed youths at Awang Khunou.

One Yamaha Enticer motorcycle (MN-01N/0335) and two pistols with magazines each loaded with ammunition were recovered from the site of the encounter.

Not long after the first encounter, the combined force was also engaged in another gun-battle with armed persons who came in a Tata Sumo (MN-01A/0331) near the same area and killed four of them.

The Tata Sumo has been seized and one M-16 Rifle, one magazine loaded with 62 live rounds and one pistol holster have been recovered after the second encounter, the police report said, adding that the all the six bodies have been picked up and deposited at the mortuary of RIMS Hospital.

Meanwhile, the two UG suspects who were killed in the first encounter have been identified as Kshetrimayum Govind (28) s/o Gouramani of Keishamthong Hodam Leirak and Ngasepam Danny alias Bode (26) s/o Achou of Sega Road Khwairakpam Leikai.

However, the family members have asserted that both of them were innocent.

According to information received by the press, the Yamaha Enticer recovered from the site of the alleged encounter belonged to Govind and both of them have gone out together driving the motorcycle last evening.

They were engaged in supplying recharge cards of mobile phones to shops.

Addressing a press conference at Hodam Lairembi Club here today, Bilashini, mother of Govind, said her son was an innocent youth who supplied recharge cards to shops and rear pigs at home to earn his livelihood.

Every day, he went out in the morning to distribute recharge cards among the shops and in the evening went to collect the sale proceeds.

Like any other day, he had gone out from home in the evening yesterday to collect money from selling the recharge cards.

The heartbroken mother demanded to know why her innocent son had been killed.

Govind left behind a son who is around 2 years old.

Bilashini wondered who her newly widowed daughter-in-law and grandson would survive.

Younger brother of Govind, Premkumar demanded the Government to come out with an explanation on the killing of his brother and what crime he had committed.

Mother of Danny, Chaoba Devi, informed that her son had gone out yesterday along with Govind like every day to collect the sale proceed of the recharge cards.

Danny normally returned home at around 7.30 pm, his mother added.

Danny was a bachelor.

Out of the alleged four armed persons killed in the second encounter, two of them have been identified as Md Tomba (35) s/o late Ibeton of Mayang Imphal Bengoon Konchak but staying at Golapati and Md Rahman (34) of Hatta.

It is said that Tomba was a driver of Rickshaw Thela while Rahman was the driver of the Tata Sumo which was reportedly involved in the shoot-out.

A team of Imphal West Police Commandos brought along the owner of the Tata Sumo, Pheiroijam Anand of Sagolband Khamnam Leirak to the mortuary of RIMS at around noon today for the identification of Rahman.

While Tomba was identified by some of his Rickashaw driver colleagues in the morning.

All the six bodies, however, have not yet been claimed by their respective families.

It may be recalled here that in the afternoon of September 7, Bishnupur Police Commandos killed three cadres of KYKL (MDF) during a reported encounter atop a hillock located near Ningthoukhong Khunou bordering Bishnupur and Churachandpur district.

In the night of the same day, personnel of 12 Maratha Light Infantry shot dead four cadres of KLA and a civilian driver in another shot out at Mokot Chepu in Ukhrul district.
