Nagaland polls to be held as scheduled

The Election Commission of India (ECI) has announced that the State of Nagaland will go to the Assembly election as per schedule in 2018 .
Chief Election Commissioner (CEC), Achal Kumar Jyoti, Election Commissioners Om Prakash Rawat and Sunil Arora and Deputy Election Commissioner, Sudeep Jain were in Nagaland on Tuesday and Wednesday to take stock of the scenario .
Addressing a press conference, the ECI team said that the State of Nagaland will go to polls in the month of March next year .
This announcement has come amid the demands from various Naga organizations and Government of Nagaland to settle the Naga political issue before the Assembly elections of Nagaland State .
On November 17, the Nagaland Legislators Forum on Naga Political Issue in its meeting in Kohima had adopted a resolution which stated "it is important to ensure that the settlement of the Naga political issue is done before the Nagaland Assembly elections to prevent shift of focus from settlement to election." That meeting was held under the Chairmanship of Dr Imtiwapang Aier, Speaker of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly, and addressed by Chief Minister TR Zeliang .
The Nagaland Legislators Forum on Naga Political Issue had also decided in that meeting to make an appeal that a delegation of legislators should go to New Delhi to meet the Prime Minister and other Central leaders to submit the memorandum on the Naga political issue seeking an early solution before the ensuing Assembly election of Nagaland .
Towards this endeavour, a consultative meeting with civil society organizations will be convened on December 4 in Kohima by the Government of Nagaland .
Those organizations which have been invited by the State Government to the consultative meeting on Naga political issue are Forum for Naga Reconciliation (FNR), Naga Hoho, Eastern Naga People's Organisation (ENPO), Central Nagaland Tribes Council (CNTC), Nagaland Tribes Council (NTC), Naga Mothers' Association (NMA), Eastern Naga Women Organisation, Tenyimi Public Organisation, Nagaland GB Federation, Naga Students’ Federation, Eastern Naga Students’ Federation, Angami Public Organisation, Ao Senden, Chakhesang Public Organisation, Chang Khulei Setshang, Khiamniungan Hoho, Konyak Union, Lotha Hoho, Phom People's Council, Pochury Hoho, Rengma Hoho, Sangtam Likhum Pumji, Sumi Hoho, Yimchunger Tribal Council, Zeliangrong Baudi (N) and Western Sumi Hoho, Dimapur .
It can also be noted here that, two days ago Forum for Naga Reconciliation (FNR) and apex Naga organizations, consisting of 24 organizations met at Chumukedima in Dimapur, and urged the Government of India to "intently complete the Naga political cause without further delay, before the general election in the State of Nagaland" .
