Infuriated local people of Bethel Village today set the house of one Thawanglen Haokip on fire accusing him of murdering D Mangneithoi Haokip, a 16-year year old teenaged girl who was found brutally murdered in her own agricultural field on August 19.The villagers have also asked all the family members of Thawanglen Haokip to leave the village for their own good.
Thawanglen Haokip (14) is said to be a close relative of the murdered girl, and the two houses are located adjacent to each other.
According to information provided by the Joint Action Committee formed in connection with the killing, when the family members came to know that Thawanglen Haokip was the murderer, they handed over him to Lamshang Police Station at around 7 pm yesterday.
Earlier, Thawanglen had allegedly given the name of a person from Koukrak as the murderer compelling the JAC to go to Koukrak.
But it turned out that he was lying.
The action of Thawanglen also infuriated the people of Koukrak, and sworn to punish Thawanglen and formed a JAC accordingly.
At around, 9 am today, a large number of people coming from places like Irong, Singda, Kadangband, Lairen Sajik, Koukrak, Kharam Thadoi and Bethel stormed into the house of Thawanglen and set it on fire after destroying all the properties.
The infuriated people also categorically asked the family members to leave the village within 10 days.
Later at around 11 am, the incensed people went to Lamshang Police Station demanding public execution of Thawanglen.
But on learning that the accused murderer had already been handed over to the Lamphel Police Station, they returned back.
