Imphal, April 15 2019:
Chief Minister N Biren has asserted that the days of both Congress and CPI are over.
As a result of what they did in the past, Congress party no longer enjoys any mass support.
CPI too does not have any place in the current electoral politics, Biren said while addressing a BJP election rally held today in the indoor stadium of Western Club, Uripok Khumanthem Leikai.
He said that BJP yearns to see emergence of political leaders who are committed to eradicate corruption, solve public grievances and consolidate hill-valley unity.
Saying that the State suffered a lot as citizens were not judicious enough while exercising their right to vote in the past, Biren appealed to all the people to re-elect the BJP-led Government so that Manipur can make rapid strides on the path of development.
Claiming that the BJP-led Government is capable of bringing the desired changes, Biren said that Narendra Modi would return as the country's Prime Minister for the second time.
The BJP-led Government was sworn in not long after the Churachandpur uproar related to the ILPS issue where many people were killed, when the State was reeling under 3/4 months of economic blockade and after more than 1000 people had been killed in the valley in alleged fake encounters.
"It was due to a holy influence that the incumbent Government was sworn in and I never did anything to get the Chief Minister's chair", Biren said.
After resolving the Churachandpur issue through dialogue, the Government was also successful in getting the protracted economic blockade lifted.
Moreover, the incumbent Government which is just two years old has brought about considerable improvement in the law and order situation, Biren said.
He said that Imphal-Jiribam highway has improved remarkably and there is no work which cannot be accomplished if a political leader is fully committed.
Seven women market complexes have been constructed and inaugurated at hill district headquarters thereby augmenting women's income.
The present issues of CAB and ILPS would have never surfaced had the then Congress Government not withdrawn ILPS from Manipur in 1950.Manipur is facing a boundary issue because the Congress leaders of the Centre did not consult the people of the State before signing the India-Myanmar Border Agreement in 1967, Biren rued.
People are suffering today because the politicians of the past did not think for the future, he added.
