Imphal, April 15 2019:
Manipuri Students' Federation (MSF) has expressed sympathy at the loss of lives and properties following the sudden massive thunderstorm accompanied by high speed winds, that lashed across the State at around 10 in the morning today.
A press release issued by MSF publicity secretary stated that a team of MSF visited various locations which were affected by the storm including New Model Public School, Kumbi, Manipur Creative School, Kwakta, Hopes Foundation, Wangoo Mamang Sabal, Wangoo Tera High School.
On the other hand, a Natural Disaster Quick Response Team led by MSF president extended aid to the victims who were admitted to RIMS, Bishnupur district hospital, JNIMS and Moirang PHC as a result of the incident.
Meanwhile, the student organisation also assisted one elderly at an Old Age Home in Kumbi, who got injured on her right leg.
The MSF has appealed all political parties to refrain from politicising calamities in the name of meeting the victims but rather show the genuine and true caring gestures towards the victims and situations.
Maintaining that school and educational institutes were heavily damaged or affected apart from many houses and shops, it mentioned that it clearly shows that these so called schools were built by business minded people just for the name sake and keeping the students in a chicken coop like place.
It stated that the incident where the schools, which were easily damaged by the storm with the roofs and walls all flown away, have raised a question whether the State Government had inspected the condition of the school or if the institutes follow the guidelines, before granting its approval.
Following the failure of the State Government to form the Registration and Recognition Act, MSF has further raised suspicion whether the Govt had granted its approval to such schools without properly examining them.
MSF cautioned that it, as a part of its academic campaign, 'Eikhoi Lairik Ningthina Tamshi', will initiate a series of inspection trips to all the Government schools as well as private/firm owned schools to examine whether they follow necessary guidelines and maintain proper infrastructure.
It further urged the State Govt and the private firms to intervene and improve the condition of schools for the welfare of the students.
Expressing solidarity to the victims and families of victims who lost their properties and are homeless as a consequence of the thunderstorm, MSF vowed to continue extending all possible aid and further appealed all to extend their valuable assistance to the victims.
