ASUK imposes 12 hr shutdown on Jan 26

Imphal, January 23 2022: The Alliance for Socialist Unity, Kangleipak (ASUK) has called a 12-hour shutdown (6 am to 6 pm) in Manipur on January 26 .

A press release issued by ASUK convenor S Mangal said that rituals, health and other emergency services will be exempted from the purview of the shutdown.

Saying that 26 January is a day of celebration for India as its Constitution was enacted on this day in 1950, ASUK claimed that the event, however, is the second black day for the Kangleicha (people of Kangleipak) after October 15 .

Alleging that India bifurcated Jammu and Kashmir after passing 'The Jammu and Kashmir Reorganization Act, 2019' in August 2019, ASUK claimed that the handiwork was condemned by many for it undermines international laws and natural justice.

Claiming that the annexation of Manipur and reducing the erstwhile kingdom to a Part C State also violated natural justice and international conventions, ASUK alleged that the people of WESEA region have no reason to take part in the celebration.

ASUK also expressed disappointment over the frequent showcasing of 'our sacred culture whenever Indian leaders visit the State inappropriately' .

"Emergence of many leaders who believe that Manipur could not survive on its own is rather unfortunate," ASUK said and reminded that the erstwhile kingdom joined India only in 1949 .

Claiming that the trend of politicians switching allegiance to the party in power at Delhi is embarrassing, the alliance alleged that they will carry on their movement to regain the independence of Kangleipak.
