Imphal, June 13 2015 :
Alleging that the winner's certificate was given to 'defeated' Congress candidate after resorting to all kinds of malpractices during counting of votes for Irang Part-II polling station of Sadar Hills ADC, BJP Manipur Pradesh has resolved to challenge the counting results in the law Court.
Speaking to media persons at their Nityaipat Chuthek office today, BJP Manipur Pradesh secretary (media affairs) L Basanta said that BJP candidate Man Bahadur Thapa secured 1083 votes at the end of counting of votes for Irang Part-II polling station while Congress candidate Varing Prasad secured 1077 votes.
By that time, the NPF candidate secured 876 votes while the Independent candidate secured 785 votes.
As there was a broad agreement among all the polling agents regarding the votes secured by each candidate, the Returning Officer formally announced that the winner's certificate would be handed over to the BJP candidate.
After the polling agents had left the counting hall, the RO asked the BJP candidate as well as the counting agents to go outside saying that the next round of counting was about to start.
However, not long after, the RO declared that the Congress candidate had won the particular DCC seat and the winner's certificate was handed over promptly even though the BJP candidate secured six more votes than his Congress rival.
Even as the State Election Commission was approached twice with written appeals to give details of votes secured by the candidates in the particular DCC, there has been no response till date, Basanta said.
BJP would file a complaint in the Court against handing over winner's certificate to a defeated candidate, he added.
