Imphal, September 28 2010: A day after the reported leaving of seven outside students from NIT, Imphal, Dean of NIT, Planning and Development Dr P Chakraborty, a professor from Arunachal Pradesh said that they had left the institute due to language problem.

Seven students, four from Rajasthan, two from Uttar Pradesh and one from Andhra Pradesh has reportedly came out of the hostel they were staying for returning home alleging that the institute has no proper infrastructures of being a technology institute.

The seven students had leave the institute because of communication gap, Dean of Planning and Development, Dr P Chakarborty of the National Institute of Technology, Imphal, which its first session was started only two month back observed that the seven students left the institute.

He was addressing media persons in the office chamber of the Education minister, L Jayentakumar.

English is the medium of the institute and they have poor knowledge of the language and find hard to communicate with other students and teaching faculties, the Dean observed adding that those seven students were coming from Hindi medium schools.

One of them had obtained permission from the director before leaving with the request to allow him study in any other institute of his choice, he added.

Appropriate disciplinary actions will be taken up against them who violated common rules and regulations of the NITs in the country, he said recalling that such a similar incident was also occurred at NIT Agartala five year ago.

There is no reason for taking seriously when they left the institute, he added.

The Imphal NIT was set up as joint venture of the State and Central governments.

State government is providing adequate security, power, water supply, land and other infrastructures.

Developing the NIT is now in the hand of the NIT authority and in the next two year, the institute will be one of the best NITs of the country.

Let's see it, he said.

Dr Chakarborty further observed that it is natural to experience some shortage in an institute in its initial stage.

But they authority is trying its best to cope up with the shortage infrastructures.

State as well as Central government is giving full attention for rapid development of it.

Higher Education commissioner, Mosses Chalai who also attended the press briefing said that the authority is providing all the requirements of the students.

Teachers are taking class well without any external and internal disturbances.

However, he admitted some shortfall in the reference books in the library but the authority is trying its best to solve it.

Education minister, L Jayentakumar said that government is keen in the successful running of the institute as any expenditure for development of infrastructure of the NIT spent by the state government is to be reimbursed by the Union ministry of Human Resources Development.

Government has not received an complaint of shortage of any kind in this NIT, he added.
