ILDS receives accreditation from Olympus (India)

The Institute of Liver and Digestive Sciences (ILDS), Kwakeithel Heinoukhongnembi has received accreditation from Olympus (India) as a Centre of Excellence in Endoscopy.
The Centre of Excellence in Endoscopy accreditation ceremony was held today at the OPD Waiting Lounge of ILDS Hospital.
The event was attended by Dr N Surajkumar, Director, ILDS; Naoshio Kikumoto, Managing Director, Olympus (India) and Rio Nakadegawana, Assistant Divisional Manager, Olympus (India) as the presidium members.
A press briefing was also held in this connection at the ILDS Hospital Boardroom today.
Addressing the media persons, Dr N Surajkumar stated that ILDS Hospital is the only hospital in the North East region to be awarded the Centre of Excellence in Endoscopy accreditation by Olympus (India) .
"In Japan, GI cancer is treated very early, in stark contrast to Manipur where it is treated quite late.
However, at ILDS, we have started early treatment of this cancer," said Dr N Surajkumar.
In places like Japan, Korea and European countries as well as America, people are screened for colon cancer once they reach the age of 50 years, he added.
Stating that incidences of colon cancer are very high in Manipur in the context of India, he maintained that the Centre of Excellence in Endoscopy was awarded to enable easy screening of such diseases as colon cancer and subsequent swift treatment.
