World Environment Day observed in all districts

Thoubal, June 05 2017: In connection with the World Environment Day, many schools, NGOs, clubs, institutions and organisations conducted various tree plantation drives at different parts of Thoubal district today.

Rajya Sabha MP K Bhabhananda inaugurated the 30 days programme on World Environment Day at Khongjom war memorial complex today.

Under the theme "Go Green Manipur", the programme was organised by BJYM Manipur Pradesh in collaboration with BJYM, Thoubal where varieties of saplings were planted around Kheba hill.

Education Minister Th Radheshyam, BJP, Thoubal district president T Deben, BJYM Manipur Pradesh president Somorjit , BJP Manipur Pradesh former vice-president Th Jadumani and other party leaders took part in the programme.

K Bhabhananda stressed on the importance of observing the day and said, "Organising such an event is crucial since we need to keep a check on the rapid climate change and its impact on the human body."

Radheshyam stated that planting trees are necessary as it will prevent all natural calamities including flood , drought, lanslides etc.

BJYM president Somorjit said that the 30 days programme aims to maintain and create a balance in the environment and in turn improve the climatic condition.

In the meantime, Green Revolution Society (GRS) Manipur joined hands with Thoubal Municipal Council and Athokpam Youth Club and conducted a tree plantation drive led by Khangabok AC MLA O Surjakumar to mark the observation of World Environment Day.

The saplings were planted along Thoubal Wangmata TMC road and at Thoubal DC complex where Thoubal Municipal Council Chairperson Th Shyamo Singh, Vice-Chairperson, councillors, ward members, GRS members and club members took part.

Surjakumar who is also the Chairman of GRS stated that GRS has been taking up many steps to keep the environment balanced for five years and added that it has planted more than 3 lakh saplings in the last five years.

He further stated that GRS has set to accomplish the plantation of 10,000 saplings this year.

World Environment Day was also observed by Manipur Network Positive People (MNP+), Thoubal where varieties of 200 saplings were planted at Tangjeng hill, Thoubal Kiyam Siphai.

On the other hand, a one day legal awareness and Environment Day was held at Eastern Blooming Flowers School (EBFS), Ukhongshang today.

The event was jointly organised by Manipur Women Foundation, Yairipok with District Legal Services Authority, Thoubal and Legal Aid Clinic, Yairipok under the guidance of Manipur State Legal Services Authority, Imphal.

EBFS Principal S Senyai, Nongpok Sekmai police station OC Kilong S Branton, Shikhong Sekmai Municipal Council ward no 8 councillor L Hemolata Devi and social worker Sorojini Devi attended the event as dignitaries.

A similar programme was organised by Legal Aid Clinic, Thoubal Litanpok at Kiyma Siphai high School under the supervision of Manipur State Legal Services Authority, Imphal.

Thoubal Municipal Council ward no 15 councillor N Shanti Devi, ward no 14 councillor Th Sangeeta Devi, Legal Aid Clinic Kiyam Leitanpok coordinator L Pramo Leima and Kiyam Siphai High School Headmaster S Jateshwor Singh attended as dignitaries.

Another tree plantation drive was conducted at Yairipok Government High School led by the school Headmaster S Sanatomba where 100 saplings were planted at the campus.

In connection with the observation of the World Environment Day, a painting competition on the theme 'Connecting nature' was held at Lalit Madhob Sharma High School, Khongjom where 130 students took part.

Meanwhile, Boryangbi Government Upper Primary School students and teachers conducted a cleanliness drive around Boryangbi Thongkhong.

Later tree saplings were planted at the surroundings of the school campus.

Bishnupur : World Environment Day was observed at various parts of Bishnupur district today.

A cycle rally was flagged off by MPCB Chairman L Radhakishore (MLA) from Kangla to Bishnupur where Bishnupur Municipal Council Chairperson L Maniyaima Singh, DC, Bishnupur Bobby Waikhom, SP, Bishnupur Jogeshchandra Haobijam and MPCB member secretary T Mangi attended the inaugural function as dignitaries.

Radhakishore said that deforestation has altered the climatic condition of the State and added that different organisations, clubs along with the Government should work together in fighting the climatic imbalance in Manipur.

In another event, Sendra Thanga Part II and Manipur Forest Department jointly planted tree and flower saplings at areas around Sendra Tourist resort.

MLA T Robindro, Range Forest Officer Th Lokendro and Thanga Part II Gram Panchayat ward member M Sikandar Singh took part in the plantation drive.

Meanwhile, tree saplings were planted from Sagram Awang Leikai to Keibul Lamjao gate by Social Reforms and Sangai protection forum along with Wild Life institute of India, Dehradun.

Legal Aid Clinic, Moirang along with Moirangkhunou Santi Club observed the day under the theme 'Connecting people to nature', where Moirangkhunou Gram Panchayat Pradhan L Gouramani Singh, MPS (retired) L Birababu Singh, Legal Aid Clinic, Moirang senior pera volunteer Dr Th Gourbidhu Singh attended as dignitaries.

Councillors and ward members of Ningthoukhong Municipal Council ward no 2 and 3 also celebrated World Environment Day at Macha Ebema Eco park where 1000 saplings were planted.

Meanwhile, PHED, Bishnupur Division organised an awareness programme on 'World Environment Day' at the conference hall of the office.

Chandel: In view of the World Environment Day, Chandel district police in collaboration with Chandel District Badminton Association conducted a cleanliness cum tree plantation drive at Chandel indoor complex.

The social service was led by District police, Chandel SP Angam Kamei Romanus.

More than 200 saplings were planted inside the complex.

Jiribam : Science club and Students' Legal Literacy Club of Jiribam Higher Secondary School observed "World Environment Day" at the school auditorium under the sponsorship of Manipur State Legal Services Authority, Imphal today.

Principal (retired) of Jiribam Higher Secondary School S Maniton Singh, Principal of the school L Ranjit Kumar Singh, SDPO, Jiribam police station RK Charles, Deputy Commandant 37 AR Kadamtala, Jiribam Dr Suman Ghosh, Captain 37 AR Ganesh Mihra and senior Medical officer 87 CRPF, Uchathol Jiribam Dr M Kamei attended the event as dignitaries.

As a part of the event, a tree plantation drive and an essay competition was also held.

Founder secretary of Social Welfare Services Association, Kalinagar M Priyokumar Singh and advocate I Inaobi Devi spoke at the event as resource persons.

Meanwhile, People For Endeavour For Social Change (PESF) and Hill Cross English School, Kamramga Jiribam jointly observed World Environment Day at the school where a tree plantation drive led by PESF Director was also conducted.

Kakching: Kakching Khunou Youth Forum observed World Environment Day by conducting a cleanliness campaign from Kakching Khunou Lamkhai today, conveyed a press release issued by general secretary of the Forum.

Meanwhile a cleanliness drive was conducted by Zou Sangnaupang Pawlpi (ZSP) Sodhu block , Chandel at Sugnu CHC, Kakching district today.

The drive was held in collaboration with Sugnu police and Municipal Committee.

Tree saplings were also planted.

Kangpokpi: The 2nd Keithelmanbi Military Colony Environment Day was organized under the theme "Join the race to make the world a better place" by Keithelmanbi Youth Association under the sponsorship of DFO Kangpokpi.

DFO, Kangpokpi Binod Kumar, Additional PCCF N Kipgen and Junior MCS, SDC (HQ), Kangpokpi Kaigoulal Kipgen attended the event as special guests while local MDC Lamminthang Kipgen also took part in the event.

More than 300 saplings including Kapur, Thingthou, Chorfone, Bokul, Gulmohor, Tamarind, Gooseberry and Jack fruit were planted by the dignitaries and KYA volunteers in and around Keithelmanbi village.

Meanwhile, KBC Gambih No 5 Kangpokpi area observed the day at Gopibung Lamkhai which was graced by ADC Sadar Hills Chairman Haokholal Hangshing as chief guest.

The dignitaries and KBC Gambih no 5 members planted more than 100 saplings of different kinds.

Ukhrul: Dungrei Youth Organisation (DYO) in collaboration with NERCORMP/IFAD, Forest Department, PHED/MDWS, NABARD, KVK and District Health Department observed World Environment Day at Ukhrul District Hospital, Hungsei Hungpung, Ukhrul.

SDO Chingai sub-division, Ukhrul Pawan Yadav who attended as chief guest of the event and encouraged the people of Ukhrul to plant more trees.
