Demand for UT slammed

Kakching, August 31 2024:
Mass protest demonstrations were held across Kakching and several other districts against Kukis' demand for Union Territory and their planned rally today.
Heeding to a call for cease work/sit-in protest by the Meitei Leima, shops were shut in Pallel and Kak-ching Bazar, with the support of the Kakching Bazar Business Welfare Association (KBBWA) and Kakching Keithel Apunba Ima Lup (KKAIL) .
During the demonstrations, the protesters denoun- ced the Kukis' demand for a separate administration or a Union Territory and urged the Centre and the State Government to scrap the Suspension of Operation (SoO) agreement signed with Kuki militant organisations.
The protesters also appealed to the Centre to delist Kukis from the list of the Scheduled Tribes.
The protesters called on the Government to implement the National Register of Citizens and deport all illegal immigrants from the State.
In Imphal West district's Wangoi, students and teachers of Iboton Memorial Aca- demy too staged a sit-in protest.
The students held banners and raised slogans to scrap the SoO agreement and implement NRC in Manipur.
They urged the Government to crack down on Kuki narco-terrorists and bring an end to the conflict.
The students also called on the Centre and the State Government to protect Manipur's integrity and interests.
