Directorate of Medical and Health Services, State Health Mission Manipur and Revised National Tuberculosis Control Program (RNTCP), Manipur organised the launching ceremony of Active TB Case Finding of Tuberculosis as well as the handing over of two wheeler vehicles to the TB care providers, at the auditorium hall of the Indian Medical Association (IMA), Lamphelpat, today .
Health Minister L Jayantakumar Singh, Parliamentary Secretary (Health and Family Welfare) S Subhaschandra Singh and Additional Director (MC) Directorate of Medical and Health Services, Dr H Ranjit Singh attended the event as the chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively .
Speaking at the event, L Jayanta Kumar said that the advancement of modern medical science has enabled doctors and experts to distinguish treatable types of TB as well as the highly dangerous ones .
"However, the most dangerous illness is one's own neglect and lack of awareness.
Even a simple ailment, if not treated properly and kept neglected, may develop into a life threatening situation", he added .
Jayantakumar further said that in the old days, if a member of a family is stuck with an illness, society used to perceive the family with the same social stigma as an individual with AIDS/HIV is given nowadays .
The campaign aims to spread awareness about TB to various remote parts of the State .
Jayantakumar urged the people not to panic if someone is stricken with TB as it is now treatable easily and one can easily approach the nearest medical centre for diagnosis and treatment.
