Imphal, July 03 2017:
The dispute between people of Moirang and Thanga ACs arising over the jurisdictional area of Sendra could snowball into a major flare-up if the Government fails to bring an amicable settlement to the issue on time .
Addressing media persons today at Manipur Press Club, Member of Thanga Zilla Parishad, Ningthoujam Dinesh; Pradhan of Thanga GP Kh Binarani; Member of Ward No 2 M Sikander, convener of United Clubs of Thanga Kh Bidhu and its finance secretary Kh Shyamkumar strongly urged the Govt to ascertain the truth and solve the matter once and for all .
According to the leaders of Thanga, the claim made by people of Moirang that Sendra belongs to them has only made the issue critical and severe.
People of Moirang have prohibited the movement of Thanga denizens from passing through Moirang.
As such, many students from Thanga who are schooling at Moirang have stopped attending classes due to fear of backlash.
All passenger vehicles plying to and fro Thanga via Moirang have also ceased services .
On July 1, MLA of Moirang AC came to Sendra for a tree plantation drive in connection with environmental protection and Vanmahotsava.
People of Sendra accorded a warm welcome to the Moirang MLA, they said .
However, people of Moirang harboured a feeling that Sendra belongs to Moirang and the same was reflected on the day the MLA came there for tree plantation and that ignited the current impasse, the Thanga leaders said .
Since many years back, Sendra belongs to Thanga AC and is a part of Thanga Zilla Parishad and Thanga Gram Panchayat.
Many developmental activities have also been implemented at Sendra through Thanga ZP and Thanga GP.
Besides, several gazette notifications issued by the Government also clearly indicated that Sendra is under Thanga AC, Thanga ZP and Thanga GP .
The alleged highhanded act committed by people of Moirang AC who tried to dismantle the signboards erected at Sendra under MGNREGA and Swachh Bharat Mission has hurt the sentiments of the Thanga people beyond imagination.
As such, people of Thanga want the officials concerned to initiate fitting action against those involved in the act.
It is very clear now that the MLA had not come there to plant trees, but to stoke violence between people of Moirang and Thanga ACs, they said .
Had the MLA gone there with a clear intention of planting trees, the ugly standoff today would have never occurred.
The claim made by people of Moirang through a press release that Sendra belongs to Moirang has also stirred the tension .
They further conveyed their wish that the act of igniting tension among unsuspecting people by instigating some persons without documentary evidence be stopped .
The Government should not maintain its silence over the matter but settle the matter once and for all by ascertaining the truth.
The Government should also demarcate revenue boundary and election boundary clearly so that the issue is solved amicably, they demanded .
They further warned of launching several intense forms of agitation if the Govt fails to bring out the truth over the matter.
They also appealed people of Moirang not to spread canards that Sendra belongs to Moirang.
There is documentary evidence to ascertain that Sendra belongs to Thanga AC.
The Thanga leaders also challenged all concerned to bring out any documentary proofs to substantiate the claim that Sendra is under Moirang Municipal Council.
