MLA inspects flood, distributes relief aid

Thoubal MLA, O Surajkumar, inspected the flood affected areas of Thoubal kendra and distributed relief aid and essential commodities to the affected people today .
Though at high level, the Thoubal river has not overflowed till now, but the water coming out of the grounds and the overflowing water from Ekop paat has flooded around 800 houses in Leishangthem and Thoudam Leishangthem .
MLA O Surajkumar today visited the flood affected areas of Moijing, Leishangthem and Thoudam Leishangthem and also distributed relief aid consisting of 5 kgs of rice, 1 kg of dal, one salt packet and a bottle of cooking oil, were distributed to each of the 800 affected families of Leishangthem and Thoudam Leishangthem .
Speaking to media persons, Surajkumar said that the local people and the Department concerned are working feverously to stop the flood and pointed out that steps would be taken up at the earliest to stop the water overflowing from the Ring Band stretching from Leishangthem to Athokpam .
The MLA was also accompanied by the ex MLA of Khangabok kendra, O Landhoni during the inspection visit .
A local pointed out that Leishangthem and its surrounding areas frequently experience flood and expressed desire for the authority concerned to take up necessary actions to prevent flood prior to rainy seasons .
He also stated that the frequent floods can be prevented to a great extent if the Arong river is diverted towards Kharung paat instead of Ekop paat by any means necessary and if the ring band designed to prevent overflowing of the Ekop paat is raised further and higher.
