Imphal, July 03 2017:
All Tribal Students' Union Manipur (ATSUM) has demanded immediate declaration of results of the personality test for recruitment of 280 Assistant Professors for Government colleges as per the judgement of the High Court of Manipur setting aside reservation of 50 percent of the total post .
ATSUM, in a press release also demanded the authority concerned to initiate fresh steps for conducting a special recruitment drive for ST to compensate the loss incurred in the process for want of technical lapses and fill up the backlog/shortfall of 157 numbers of Assistant/Associate Professors .
It reminded that as per the Cabinet decision taken on September 2, 2014 to fill up 285 vacant posts of Assistant Professor, MPSC issued an official advertisement on November 11, 2014 for direct recruitment of 280 posts of Assistant Professor in 28 Government colleges of the State .
It stated that to shortlist candidates for appearing in the interview/personality test, MPSC conducted a screening test on October 27, 2015 of which the results were declared on December 3 .
Consequent upon the screening test, shortlisted candidates appeared for interview/personality test scheduled from January 11 to 19 of 2016 .
However, the results could not be declared with the High Court of Manipur passing an interim order on January 28, 2015 on matter of WP (C) 993/2014 asking MPSC not to declare the results without the leave of the Court, it said .
Subsequently, the Court passed a judgement on January 11 last restricting reservation quantum to 50 percent of the total post as notified ie 140 posts out of the 280 shall be reserved for ST, SC and OBC, it said .
According to the release, the Court further directed the State Government to take a decision within a period of 15 days from the date of receipt of a copy of the judgement and an appointment order be given after the election is over .
Stating that its prayers have been stuck in bureaucratic limbo for five months even after the Court ruling, ATSUM said the paradigm shift of the political scenario and change of guard must be one of the reasons for keeping the issue in abeyance .
The student's union expressed optimism that the State Government will act promptly on the matter for the well being of the State.
