Senapati, July 21 2024:
The Naga People's Organisation (NPO) has asked the Senapati District Students Association (SDSA) to halt their economic embargo against the Kukis immediately after holding a meeting with Kuki representatives.
Notably, SDSA had emphasised that the economic embargo was necessitated as their appeal to stop harassing innocent travellers along National Highway 2 was met with silence and defiance from the Kuki brethren.
NPO reached out to SDSA to stop their agitation after they held a joint meeting with the Committee on Tribal Unity (CoTU) .
NPO, in a statement, said that CoTU has apologised for the extreme atrocity they had meted out to Naga commuters along National Highway 2 .
An agreement was also arrived upon during the meeting wherein CoTU has agreed to stop unnecessary frisking and harassment of commuters along the highway and stop illegal extortion on Naga commercial vehicles.
CoTU also agreed to not call any sudden shutdown or blockade along the highway which will affect the Naga commuters.
It is reported that the Kuki leaders agreed to take care of the issues within seven days failing which, the NPO may be compelled to take up agitation to counter their non-compliance.
In this regard, the SDSA has been directed to call off their agitation.
