Imphal, May 17 2021:
The Irabot Foundation Manipur (IFM) has urged the State Government to recognise farmers including fishers as well as officials engaged in these professions as front line workers.
Stating that more misery will befall upon the people if farm activities are stopped amidst this pandemic, the IFM, in a statement, urged that Government and departments concerned to encourage and assist the farmers to ensure food security.
The foundation further urged the Government to distribute farm equipment to the farmers at the earliest.
The IFM, on the other hand, asserted that the Government should not shut eyes to the issues surrounding 'appointment of non professional' as Director of departments such as Agriculture, Horticulture, Fisheries, Veterinary etc.
It then urged the Government to only appoint officials with necessary technical knowledge as the head of these departments.
Saying that most of these departments are also facing staff shortage, it added that such a shortage will hamper farm activities and lead to more dependency on food from other States.
It continued that the foundation will submit a memorandum highlighting the difficulties being faced by farmers to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Ministry concerned.
