Shumang Kumhei orphaned as Padmashri Naba Wareppa passes away

Noted playwright Padmashri Awardee Wareppa Naba breathed his last at Shija Hospitals at Langol after multiple organ failure, today.
He was 82 .
The renowned theatre personality is survived by his wife, four sons and a daughter.
A resident of Haobam Marak Thingel Ngangom Leikai, Naba Wareppa was given the prestigious Padmashri Award in 2017 for his contribution to the development and promotion of Shumang Kumhei and theatre culture.
He was also a recipient of many other National and State awards and worked as Chairman of Manipur State Shumang Lila Council, Academic Sub-Committee and president of Theatre Centre, Manipur.
Following his demise, the mortal remains of Naba Wareppa were taken to Iboyaima Shumang Lila Shanglen at Palace Compound in a special coffin (Keiren Keijao) where many eminent personalities including Keishamthong AC MLA Nishikant Singh Sapam, members of ManipurState Shumang Leela Council and film, theatre and Shumang Kumhei artists paid their obeisance and offered floral tributes.
Meanwhile, CM N Biren Singh has mourned the demise of Naba Wareppa.
On his Facebook page, N Biren wrote, "Aggrieved to learn about the demise of Padmashri Wareppa Naba who was a renowned theatre personality.
I extend my
sincere condolences to the bereaved family, and pray for the departed soul to rest in peac.e at the heavenly abode of Almighty God" .
Organisations including United Committee Manipur (UCM), Umang Lai Kanba Lup (UKAL), Writers' Forum, Imphal (WFI), Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) and Cultural Workers and Activists Forum Manipur (CWAFM) also extended their condolences and prayed for the departed soul to rest in peace.
