Imphal, September 06 2024:
With the deployment of two teams of 12-strong State Police Commandos at Yaingangpokpi Santikhongbal and Thamnapokpi from today, the Lamlai Kendra Village Volunteer Force (LKVVF) has called off the indefinite bandh along Imphal to Ukhrul Road at Yaingangpokpi Bazar.
The decision to withdraw the road blockade was taken after a joint meeting of Kh Ibomcha, Superintendent of Police, Imphal East, LKVVF volunteers, leaders of five villages in the red zone and CSO representatives held at Yaingangpokpi Community Hall today.
During the joint meeting, the negotiating parties agreed on deployment of two teams of State security forces at Thamnapokpi and Yaingangpokpi Uyok Ching and to make the necessary arrangements for their deployment within the month of September.
Notably, as the meeting was going on at Yaingangpokpi Community Hall, suspected Kuki militants reportedly fired 7/8 rounds from Thamnapokpi Uyokching.
Meanwhile, speaking in this connection, Oinam Okensana, media coordinator, LKVVF stated that the Imphal-Ukhrul Road bandh was imposed from yesterday as the relevant authority failed to fulfill the demand of the local villagers and LKVVF to deploy State forces at Sanasabi, Thamnapokpi, Yaingangpokpi, Sabugkhok Khunou and Shanti Khoban within three days in the face of renewed attacks by suspected Kuki militants.
On behalf of LKVVF, he extended gratitude to the Meira Paibis, AT volunteers and members of various CSOs for supporting the indefinite bandh.
