World AIDS Day 2022 observed across State

AIDS Day was celebrated in various parts of the State today to raise awareness about HIV/AIDS and demonstrate international solidarity in the face of the pandemic.

BISHNUPUR
District Aids Prevention and Control Committee (DAPCC) Bishnupur today observed World AIDS Day at Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya Bishnupur under the theme, "Equalize".

It was attended by Chief Medical Officer Bishnupur, Dr L Raichandra Singh; Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya Bishnupur principal, M Raghumani Singh and District Malaria Officer Bishnupur, Dr Th Nabakishore Singh as presidium members.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr L Raichandra Singh stressed on the importance of spreading awareness on HIV/AIDS to the public.

He also mentioned that out of the total 2335 sex workers, drug user and transgender registered in the district, 136 persons have been tested HIV positive.

Dr L Raichandra Singh also flagged off an awareness rally from JNV Bishnupur.

The participants carried placards with the slogans, "My health my right", "If detected HIV +ve visit ART Centre", "Know your status", "Use only tested blood", "Use condom for safer sex", "Remove stigma & discrimination to PLHIVs", "No to drug yes to life", "Insist on voluntary premarital HIV testing", etc at the rally.

As part of the event, prizes were distributed to the winners of the District Level Painting Competition conducted on November 29 at JNV Bishnupur in connection with World AIDS Day.

CHANDEL
District AIDS Prevention and Control Unit (DAPCU) Chandel today celebrated World AIDS Day at Chandel Christian Community Hall, Chandel district.

It was attended by Deputy Commissioner Chandel, Mayanglambam Rajkumar; Dr Serthani Serbum, Chief Medical Officer Chandel; Ts Ruwngval, president Naga Chief Association Chandel and Rev Dr Huten Wilson as presidium members.

Speaking to media persons, Mayanglambam Rajkumar informed that under the initiative of Chief Minister N Biren Singh, house-to-house testing for 10 Non-Communicable Diseases has been going on in the State.

"In continuation of this, testing kits for HIV & Syphilis were distributed today to begin testing in Chandel district", he added.

JIRIBAM
In line with the observance of World AIDS Day, Child Welfare Ashram (CWA) Jiribam under the sponsorship of Manipur State Aids Control Society (MSACS) today carried out a mass rally in Jiribam district.

A large number of students from Jiribam Higher Secondary Schools participated in the rally.

At the event, CWA Program Manager, H Priyananda informed that CWA is organising wall poster campaign, wall painting campaign and mass rallies in different places of Jiribam district to celebrate World AIDS Day and spread awareness on HIV/AIDS.

KAKCHING
The Good Shepherd School, Kakching also observed World AIDS Day today.

At the observance, the teachers spoke about AIDS and advised the young students not to fall victims to drugs and alcohol.

The students held various placards they made to raise awareness on AIDS.

SENAPATI
DAPCC Senapati and Nehru Yuva Kendra, Senapati also jointly celebrated World AIDS Day at DRDA Conference Hall, Senapati.

It was attended by R N Hannah, president Senapati District Women Association; Dr Pfokreho Pfoze, CMO Senapati; DLOs, students, ASHA workers and youth volunteers.

During the event, prizes were distributed to the winners of the Spot Painting Competition.

Similarly, National Service Scheme of Don Bosco College (A) Maram also observed World AIDS Day under the theme "Equalize".

Faculty members and volunteers wore red ribbon badges to commemorate the Day.

The celebration concluded with a musical note from the music club of the college.

Moreover, NSS Unit 1 and 2 also kick started the 7-days Residential Special Camp at the adopted villages, Kavanam and Kabinam under the theme, "Youth for Change" .

The camp was organised under the supervision of John Britto and Sr Sochanphi Ethel FMA.

TENGNOUPAL
Medicine's Sans Frontiers (MSF) today observed World AIDS Day under the theme, "Equalize, Global solidarity, Shared responsibility" at Conference Hall, Moreh Hospital.

It was attended by CMO Tengnoupal, Dr Jangkholun Touthang; PHC Moreh MO in-charge, Dr Santikumar and Moreh Hospital, ARTC, Dr Mejonah as presidium members.

Members of KSO Moreh and community leaders of Moreh also took part in the event.

UKHRUL
DAPCU Ukhrul in collaboration with various NGOs operating in the district observed World AIDS Day under the theme "Equalize" at DRDA Conference Hall, Mini Secretariat Office Complex, Hamleikhong, Ukhrul.

Speaking on the occasion, Ukhrul DC Krishna Kumar stressed on changing the mindset of the people in order to control and prevent the dreadful disease.

"It is our collective responsibility to fight against substance abuse and make Ukhrul free from drugs", he added.

Dr Yuithingla Vashum, DACO Ukhrul/Kamjong district elaborated on stigmatization and exclusion of people living with HIV.

According to her report, over 1800 persons are taking ART in both Ukhrul and Kamjong districts.

SP Ukhrul, Ningsem Vashum; CMO, Dr Kapangring A Shimray; and Solanwor Kashung, Brand Ambassador Red Ribbon Campaign (RRC), Pettigrew College also spoke on the occasion.

As part of the event, a candlelight service, with the song "Go Light your World" led by local artist Chungsangla Jajo in memory of those who have died from the disease was also carried out.

Later, Krishna Kumar flagged off a rally from Mahatma Gandhi Chowk Phungreitang, Ukhrul.

The programme was jointly organised by DAPCU, NYKS, AHANA, VIHAN, LWS (SPYM) PASDO, CARE, Bom Again, Hope & Healing, DOULOS, I-TECH, NPPCTC & Facilities centres.

ASSAM RIFLES
Churachandpur Battalion under the aegis of HQ IGAR (South) also observed World AIDS Day by conducting an awareness lecture on "Prevention, causes & diagnosis of AIDS" at the border villages of Tuitam Khongkhai and Govajang in Churachandpur District.

During the programme, troops of Assam Rifles educated the villagers on common misconceptions, stigma and biases regarding the disease that fuels the trauma of AIDS patients, said a statement of IGAR(S).

A total of 30 villagers took part in the event.

Moreover, to commemorate World AIDS Day, Tamenglong Battalion under the aegis of 22 Sector/IGAR(E) also conducted an awareness lecture at the Battalion Headquarters.
