Imphal, May 18 2015 :
If an elected Government which was set up through a democratic process cannot work for the welfare of public, the Government deserves punishment, asserted Union Minister of State (Home) Kiren Rijiju.
Speaking at an election rally held today at Chandel district headquarters, Kiren Rijiju stated that he has learnt about the grievances of Chandel people and lack of infrastructure in the district headquarters from many public leaders during his maiden visit to the district.
Whatever development works the Congress Government did during their prolonged rule were concentrated at Imphal.
There is no sign of any development in the hill districts including Chandel, said Rijiju and added that all roads connected with the district headquarters are quite deplorable.
Manipur's commendable achievements in different fields are not the Government's making.
The achievements are due to the dedication of the people in their respective professions.
If there should be development and peace in Manipur, the first thing people must do is oust the Congress party from the State, Kiren Rijiju asserted.
People have the power to punish a non-performing Government.
Underscoring the importance of the ensuing ADC election, Rijiju called upon the gathering to teach the Congress party a befitting lesson.
Electing BJP to power would definitely pave the way for a bright future, he claimed.
Talking about law and order situation, the Union Minister said, "It appears that the incumbent Government is hand in gloves with certain UG groups when its comes to fighting the ADC election.
This has created security problems and such unholy nexus is not advisable at all" .
All those people who have taken the wrong path as they were disillusioned by lack development for prolonged period under Congress rule should come back to the path of peace so as to usher in meaningful development, he asserted.
Saying that he has received reports about intimidation of BJP candidates, Rijiju maintained that people would give the right judgement.
There is no positive elements in the reports about bandhs, blockades and general strikes which reach the Union Home Ministry every now and then.
The Government should act promptly and responsibly if Manipur should extricate itself from such unwanted situation.
Taking serious note of the harassment of people from North Eastern States at different parts of India, police cells have been opened in metropolitan cities.
NDA Government has been paying extra attention to the North East region and this is not just propaganda.
The Central Government has been working hard to improve road connectivity throughout the region.
If BJP fails to deliver its promises, people have the right to reject the party.
This is the cornerstone of democracy.
BJP believes in secularism even though Congress has been projecting BJP as a political party dedicated to the cause of Hindus only, Kiren Rijiju asserted.
BJP Manipur Pradesh general secretary (administration) Ashnikumar too spoke at the meeting.
