At least 15 rooms including the room of the Principal, staff room, library, 3 laboratory rooms and 9 class rooms went up in flames in a devastating fire that broke out at Kendra Vidyalaya School, Lamphelpat late night on May 7 .
Though the cause of the fire could not be ascertained, it was strongly speculated that electric short circuit could be the reason for the inferno.
The fire apparently broke out after the chowkidar and the security guards of the school had gone to bed and they did not about the fire and it was only after the CRPF personnel posted next the school raised an alarm that they came to know about the fire, which by then had turned into an inferno.
Taking serious note of the devastating fire at the school, Chief Minister O Ibobi accompanied by relevant officials visited the school yesterday morning.
After surveying the extensive damage caused by the fire, the Chief Minister said that the matter would be brought to the notice of the Centre, as the school comes under the Central Government.
On the part of the State Government all possible assistance would be extended he said during the inspection.
At the moment, the school is closed for the Summer vacation since April 16 and necessary works would be taken up on a war footing to restore whatever is possible during the Summer break, said the Chief Minister.
The school has classes from I to X and fortunately most of the class rooms were not damaged during the inferno.
The Chief Minister stressed that though the school comes under the Centre, it is an asset to the State, as the school has managed to produce many bright and promising students down the years.
A number of children whose parents are serving in the Central paramilitary forces and the Army are students of the school.
