481 new TB patients detected in Mizoram during Jan-Mar, 2014

Around 481 new cases of Tubercolosis (TB) disease have been found in Mizoram during January - March, 2014, according to a government report.
The first day of the two days quarterly Review Meeting on TB treatment, 2014 was held yesterday at Health Directorate Conference Hall, Dinthar which was presided over Dr.Vanlalhruaii, State TB Officer.
In the quarterly review meeting, a thorough analysis of newly infected TB patients found during January - March, 2014 was conducted.
As per the report from different districts there are 481 new TB patients along with 174 persons whose TB disease have been detected from phlegm test.
While, 91% of TB patients had been successfully cured during Jan - March, 2014, there are 50 patients suffering from both HIV and TB.
From Private Hospital, 11 patients had been given medical treatment and there are 10 newly found MDR TB patients.
Speaking on the occasion Dr.Vanlalhruaii, State TB Officer said she is extremely glad over the smooth continuity of review on TB treatment which is conducted periodically after every 3 months.
Dr..KRopari, Principal Director who spoke on the occasion also said the new detected TB patients must be reminded that intensive treatment should be taken for a period of at least 6 to 8 months less there will be high case of MDR-TB which most difficult to cure among TB disease.
He said that the duration for treatment of TB disease usually takes minimum 2 to 2 and 3 months and the financial involvement for treatment generally cost around Rs.3 lakhs.
It is also highly important that patient takes prescribed medicine regularly, he added.
The principal further added that for some time in the past years there was no possibility for treatment of MDR-TB in Mizoram, the dangerous disease however, is now can be treated in the state without going to good hospitals in other states.
"This development is highly appreciable", he lauded.
